Organizations in General

This introductory chapter first deals with the general definition of the term “organization” in the company. It then looks at the historical and organizational development of IT – from its timid beginnings as an organizational department with huge computing machines to IT in today’s digital age. This historical classification of IT is important in order to understand the opinions and (pre)judgments toward an IT organization that are often still prevalent today, because this understanding is the basis for the transformation of IT from a machine room to a shaper and innovator.
