Does a French cultural sociology exist? Proceeding from French sociologists’ understanding of what ‘culture’ is, this article demonstrates the lack of a uniform methodological, conceptual, terminological or topical structure that would define a homogeneous French cultural sociology. Rather, four patterns of orientation emerge that will be illustrated in more detail in this article.
