Solanum torvum Swart, which belongs to the Solanaceae family, represents one of the most economically and medicinally significant angiosperm families. It is a spontaneous shrub native to the Americas and is found in all tropical regions of the world. The plant’s significance lies in its abundance of bioactive compounds with nutritional and medicinal value, exhibiting a diverse range of pharmacological properties. Additionally, it is a valuable agricultural resource, demonstrating resilience against soil pathogens. These attributes make this plant a source of natural medicines and functional food supplements. The objective of this study is to contribute to the accumulation of current knowledge regarding the physicochemical characteristics, biological activities, and principal applications of Solanum torvum. In order to achieve this objective, a synthesis of studies on wild eggplant, its bioactive constituents, and its medicinal properties was conducted. A review of the literature revealed that the bioactive constituents of Solanum torvum have been shown to have preventive effects against a range of infectious, cardiovascular, and cancerous diseases. Furthermore, studies have indicated that all parts of the plant have therapeutic potential. The fruits have also been identified as a source of interest for developers of innovative functional foods. A physicochemical analysis has identified the main components, including alkaloids, alkaloid glycosides, allenes, fatty acid, flavonoids, isoflavones, phenolic acids, tannins, coumarins, furan derivatives, lignans, saponins, monoterpenoids, triterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, and steroidal derivatives. These bioactive elements contribute to the evolution of traditional and modern medicine, which remains closely linked to compounds of plant origin.
