Alkaloids in Human Health
摘要
Alkaloids were important class of natural compounds which have been of great relevance to human health for centuries and have been widely used in medicines, nutrition, and cultural practices. This chapter focused on the multifaceted effects of alkaloids such as their biological activities, therapeutic possibilities, and risks associated with them. This chapter begins with the chemical structure and classification of alkaloids to better understand them. Thereafter, major medicinal alkaloids are discussed which have played an important role in the treatment of various diseases. In addition, the chapter also highlights the safety and toxicological aspects associated with alkaloids. It presents a balanced analysis of the potential benefits and risks arising from their use. Finally, emerging trends and future aspects of alkaloid research are discussed with an emphasis on the potential new therapeutic agents derived from these compounds. Through this comprehensive study, this chapter underlines the continuing relevance of alkaloids and shows how important they remain in the field of human health and medicine.
