Methods for Isolation and Characterization of Plant Alkaloids
摘要
Alkaloids are widely studied and dispersed classes of secondary metabolites. Aside from their pharmacological properties, several alkaloids have been discovered to exhibit biological activity. We have provided methods for isolating alkaloids and characterizing them to boost research into the therapy of this crucial metabolic condition. The methods of extraction for different plant parts, purification, and characterization of alkaloid techniques with the detection in the custom and medical field are reviewed in this chapter. The microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) is utilized to enhance efficiency of alkaloid in solvent extraction. High pressures are used by pressurized solvent extraction (PSE) to improve extraction, while solid-phase microextraction (SPE) provides a quick, solvent-free method that is very helpful for trace analysis. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is emphasized as a crucial technique for purification, with a focus on method development and instrumentation. High-quality samples for additional analysis depend on HPLC capacity to extract and purify alkaloids from complicated combinations. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (MS) are utilized to characterize alkaloids. While NMR delivers insights into molecule structure and dynamics, which are critical for identifying and comprehending the chemical characteristics of the alkaloids, MS provides comprehensive molecular weight and structural information. Thus, this combination of advanced methods enables a thorough approach to study plant alkaloids, greatly expanding the field of natural product chemistry research and its applications in medicine, agriculture, and other areas. Future advancements in these techniques should improve the accuracy and effectiveness of alkaloid extraction and analysis.
