Essential oils (EOs), derived from plants mainly by hydrodistillation or cold pressing, hold promise as natural remedies. This chapter offers an updated overview of the medicinal potential of mono- and sesquiterpenes (MTs and STs), key components of EOs. Despite their widespread use, their full pharmacological potential remains underexplored to some extent. This work discusses various activities of terpenoids, especially their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects, as well as their beneficial use in different health fields. It provides an updated insight into recent research, summarizing scientific achievements mainly from 2014 to 2024. Due to the vast number of MTs and STs and their derivatives, this overview discusses the most prominent representatives of MT- and ST-hydrocarbons, -alcohols, -oxides as well as MT- and ST-carbonyls.
