Children’s and Youth Theatre from 1900 to 1945

  • Marlene Antonia Illies

摘要

A stage manuscript can be the starting point or, more specifically, the guiding medium for a media network. It can also be just one of the many ways of processing a certain Stoff. In comparison to film and radio, theatre represents an old, long-established medium in the period in question. It saw itself threatened by both emerging entertainment sectors, but ultimately blended into productive coexistence with them. It remains unique in its stage productions, the non-conservable live experiences; consistent and intergenerational in its printing, especially in the classics, which children, parents and grandparents consumed as school reading alike. The article focuses on the connection theatre has made with film and radio and shows how media networks have developed through, around and in accord with dramatic texts and productions.
