Reproductive Paleoecology of the Glossopteris Flora in the Paraná Basin

The study of the abundant fossil fructifications of glossopterid gymnosperms recovered from various outcrops of the Brazilian portion of the Paraná Basin and the study of seeds and leaves associated with these structures have been fundamental to understanding plant evolution and recognizing the reproductive strategies adopted by this extinct plant group. By presenting an integrated view of these plant organs (fructifications and seeds), this chapter provides a brief history of the progress in studies of this plant group and presents current data reflecting what is known about seeds and fructifications from the Paraná Basin.
