The term cardiocutaneous syndrome broadly refers to any condition characterized by the concurrent involvement of the heart and skin, with or without additional organ systems being affected. This category includes disorders such as Anderson-Fabry disease, Marfan syndrome, homocystinuria, fetal alcohol syndrome, and the cardiofaciocutaneous syndromes (e.g., Noonan and Costello syndromes), which are discussed in other sections of this handbook. The focus of the present chapter is restricted to the classic cardiocutaneous syndromes primarily involving desmosomal and associated proteins, namely Naxos and Carvajal syndromes.
