Polyvinyl Resins
摘要
Polyvinyl resins have multiple uses, including medical purposes, but present various dermatological concerns. While polyvinyls themselves are not sensitizers, many additives used in polyvinyl resins are highly sensitizing, including phthalates, maleates, benzophenones, and epoxy resins. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) always contains free molecules of vinyl chloride that can induce allergic contact dermatitis, contact urticaria, Raynaud’s syndrome, and systemic sclerosis. Additionally, PVC powder has irritating properties, and incineration of PVC objects releases dioxin and HCl, posing hazards to the skin and mucosa. Diagnostic procedures for related conditions include patch-testing with vinyl resins and additives used in the polymerization process.
