This chapter summarizes the values and goals of the three defined waves of thinking in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). For each wave, the chapter highlights examples of interface evaluation methods that embody that wave’s values, lists additional interface evaluation methods that align with that wave, and provides resources for further readings on the interface evaluation methods included in that section. These sections help guide those new to interface evaluation methods in HCI in understanding the evolution of methods in the field, serving as a starting point for further exploration on the methods outlined in this chapter. In addition, this chapter introduces emerging interface evaluation methods, discussing the values present in these methods and what these values indicate for the emerging fourth wave of HCI. The chapter concludes with a summary of the values present in interface evaluation methods within each of the waves, articulating the continued relevance of these values and interface evaluation techniques under each wave. We aim for this section to inspire reflection by the HCI community of the values and goals of active and future interface evaluations, calling for consideration for the integration of the value of various waves of thinking in HCI in future interface evaluations.

摘要
