Access to justice is still a major issue in India. It presents serious obstacles, especially for women, marginalized communities, and people who lack legal knowledge. When facing harassment, theft, disputes, or other violations, victims often struggle. They often lack awareness of procedures, deal with emotional distress, and do not have support systems. This can lead to underreporting and a denial of justice. This paper introduces DefendrAI, a new digital companion system created to fill this support gap. It uses a multi-step approach that includes emotional support, guidance on procedures, and practical help. The system features a user-friendly conversational interface that helps users manage crises, preserve evidence, file complaints, and navigate the legal process in their preferred language. By combining recent advancements in natural language processing with expertise in Indian law, DefendrAI offers an accessible route to justice. It is sensitive to cultural factors and aims to empower users with knowledge and confidence. Initial user studies suggest that this technology has the potential to change how citizens interact with legal institutions, especially those who have traditionally been underserved.
