The use of local hemostatic agents and measures is essential in preventing and controlling bleeding during dental treatment for patients with bleeding disorders. The most common local hemostatic agents used in dentistry include gelatin and collagen products, oxidized regenerated cellulose, chitosan, fibrin glue, thrombin, and locally applied antifibrinolytic agents. This chapter describes the mechanisms of action, indications for use, as well as the advantages and drawbacks of local hemostatic agents. Dentists should be familiar with these agents to ensure they are used correctly and effectively in clinical practice.
