Conventionally, the activities of private companies might have caused land degradation. This trend continues in certain contexts and that may require government regulations and their enforcement. However currently a set of private companies view restoration as a viable business for financial, social and environmental considerations. These firms work in different parts of not only the developed but also less-developed world. This chapter analyses the possibilities and limitations of these firms. An important observation is the challenges in scaling up their operations. The chapter also speculates on the possible ways to overcome these challenges.
