One of the most important discoveries in neuroscience over the past few decades is that the brain is an exceptionally dynamic organ, not only in terms of function but also in morphology. The concepts of plasticity and flexibility have replaced the previously dominant view of the brain as a “static” organ, considered largely unalterable, especially morphologically, once the transition from adolescence to adulthood is complete.
