Menopause is defined as a point of time that starts 1 year after cessation of menses, while menopausal transition is a span of approximately 4–7 years, that starts by the onset of menstrual irregularities at late reproductive years and until 1 year after cessation of menstruation. Menopause and menopausal transition may be associated with alteration of quality of life secondary to estrogen deficiency. In this chapter, we discuss menopausal symptoms, management strategies, and current evidence on safety of hormonal therapy.
