Binary Joins
摘要
There are six binary joins in the CMAS quaternary system to be resolved before affording the four limiting ternary faces of the tetrahedron: (1) MgO-SiO2; (2) CaO-SiO2; (3) MgO-Al2O3; (4) CaO-Al2O3; (5) Al2O3-SiO2; (6) CaO-MgO. The thermodynamic properties of mixtures in the liquid aggregation state of the first five joins are conveniently resolved in the framework of the Hybrid Polymeric Approach (HPA), while the 6th join may be simply modeled through a Redlich–Kister formalism adopting a low degree Van Laar expansion of interaction coefficients. HPA applications to the first principles investigation of the MgO-SiO2 and CaO-SiO2 joins have already been presented by us in the past (Ottonello, 2024b; Belmonte et al. 2017a), and we must limit ourselves here to a short summary.
