In this chapter, we address the thorny problem of what to do when there is evidence of pay inequities at an institution. Perhaps surprisingly, there are several different ways of making salary adjustments in response to a pay equity study. The first question is: Should adjustments be made on an across-the-board (ATB) or a case-by-case (CBC) basis? Either approach could be used. As will be seen, though, it is often more difficult and contentious to make case-by-case salary adjustments than across-the-board adjustments. A second issue to be examined is what statistical method should be used for making these adjustments? Finally, the cost of making salary adjustments is another consideration. The chapter will use the pay equity study for staff from Chap. 9 to illustrate the different ways that pay increases could be distributed among women.

摘要
