Cultivating Historical Understanding and the Use of Critical Discourse Analysis in Historical Narratives
摘要
Historical thinking and understanding intersects the following areas: intercultural understanding, ethical understanding, critical and creative thinking, personal, emotional, social skills, critical literacy, and ITC knowledge and skills. During the last fifty years historical thinking has become a ‘standard in the theory and practice of history education in Western Europe and North America before spreading globally’ (Gibson, 2020). This is also shared by Thorp and Persson (2020) who noted that ‘historical thinking has in recent years become popular in research on history education’ (Thorp & Persson, 2020). The historical thinking approach, with critical thinking and inquiry-based pedagogy, includes multiple perspectives in history, and a rich diversity of cultural and socio-political discourses in historical narratives in history textbooks. Historical thinking enables individuals to think historically in a new way, and contributing to developing values of democracy, freedom, and justice.
