The Republic and the Citizens
摘要
This chapter analyses the normative foundations and references that define French political discourse. It examines how nationhood has been constructed, paying particular attention to the concept of citizenship and the ideal of the Republic, as well as the tension between individual rights and collective values. In particular, it emphasises the evolving interpretation of the concept of secularism, which has played a significant role in recent years within debates on not only religion but also migration, education, security, and human rights.
