Smoking is a major social issue that necessitates genuine personal social responsibility (PSR) to mitigate its deleterious effects. However, a widely accepted measure of PSR within the context of smoking is lacking. Hence, this study aims to develop and validate a scale for measuring PSR toward antismoking advocacy. A 25-item scale of PSR towards Antismoking Advocacy (PSRAA) was developed and validated, adhering to the standardized approaches for psychometric scale development and validation and following the latent variable approach. The selected sample encompassed members of non-governmental organizations based in Bahrain. The developed PSRAA scale yielded a Cronbach’s alpha of .94 indicating a very good level of internal consistency; items demonstrated adequate convergent and divergent validity, and the estimates were significant and positive. The exploratory factor analysis unraveled the PSRAA scale’s factorial structure with the underlying seven dimensions (social, economic, legal, ethical, health, awareness, and environmental). Overall, the results revealed that the PSRAA scale of 23-item exhibits robust psychometric properties and it is a sound instrument for measuring PSR towards antismoking advocacy among adults’ group. Applying the developed scale to larger communities can play a key role in establishing insights into people’s orientation and personal values towards smoking complex and multidimensional associated issues, thus creating novel approaches to combat tendencies and attitudes towards smoking addiction.

摘要
