Data Journalism and Practice in Jordan

The study aims to know the use of data journalism by Jordanian journalists. It came with a descriptive study using the survey method, where a questionnaire was used on a sample of (179) journalists who are in practice and affiliates to the journalists’ syndicate. The theory that was used is “Uses and Gratifications. Results showed that the objectives significantly affected the gratification regarding data journalism practices. Besides, Need remained a significant predictor of gratifications through data journalism. Additionally, the mediation analysis indicated significant indirect effects of Motives on the relationship between objectives and Gratification. However, the mediating effect of motivation on the relationship between needs and gratification remained insignificant. Overall, it was found that journalists’ needs and objectives were important predictors of their professional gratifications through data journalism acceptance. Further, motivation also remains important in accelerating this adoption process.
