Performance Analysis of Sliding Mode Controller for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

In recent years, Electric Vehicle sector is rapidly growing due to the enhancement in EV drive system. Most of the electric vehicle drive system generally adopts BLDC, PMSM, SynRM in it. Due to the high demand of Electric vehicle technology, the improvement of drive system becomes more prominent emerging technology in research sector. In electric vechicle drive system, permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is most commonly used due to high efficiency and smooth control. The conventional PI controller possess high ripple content, overshoot and settling time. To enhance the performance of PMSM drive, the Sliding Mode Controller (SMC) is proposed in this article. The proposed SMC produces enhanced performance when compared to conventional PI controllers. The proposed SMC for PMSM drive provide low settling time of 0.05 s, with low overshoot and zero steady state error.
