Evaluation of Water Demand in Screed Mixtures Containing Secondary Sands
摘要
Since the secondary sands are extracted from multiple sources, their physical properties, such as particle size distribution, density, porosity, grain shape, and internal friction, are different from the natural river sands. These parameters impact the water absorption of the aggregates, and the workability and finishability of the screeds, as well as their hardened properties, such as compressive and tensile strength. The measurement of water absorption of secondary sands using the standard methods remains an open question, which makes it even more complicated to find the total water demand of the screed mixtures. Also, because screed mixes are relatively dry compared to conventional mortar or concrete mixes, their workability is difficult to define using standard methods used for mortar or concrete. In this paper, an effort has been made to predict the water demand of screed mixes based on the physical properties of secondary sands. Finally, the impact of water demand on compressive and tensile strength of hardened screed is observed and reported.
