Resistance of Coated E-glass Textiles to Alkaline Attack
摘要
Textile Reinforced Concrete (TRC) is emerging as a high-performance, lightweight and durable alternative to traditional steel-reinforced concrete, having significant potential for applications in thin-walled structures, façade panels, and durable infrastructure components. E-glass textiles can make this more promising but their stability, in terms of aging-related loss of mechanical integrity and degradation of the matrix-yarn interface, raises concerns. The best way to mitigate the deterioration is with appropriate coatings. This study compares the influence of pH on the durability of E-glass textiles coated with Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The textiles were exposed to two alkaline solutions for 7 days, each representing a distinct pH range. To examine morphological changes in the fibres and coatings post-exposure, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis was conducted. The results offer valuable insights on the advantages of PVC coatings to enhance the long-term performance of TRC in real-world applications.
