AI has risen like a thunderstorm in the desert, bringing much-needed rain yet carrying the risk of flooding. The perspectives offered are based on the author’s work in this space over the past 8 years, starting with the incorporation of his Narrative Coaching framework in an early-stage AI application and including his current work as Head of Ovida Labs (ovida.io). This chapter starts with an introduction which makes the case for thinking about coaching in new ways in the age of AI. The Five Maturities framework is offered as a guide for developing mature practitioners who are masterful in each of the five elements in the coaching process. A second table is offered which illustrates the roles AI can play in supporting the growth of coaches and clients. Five propositions are offered on the implications of the integration of AI in the coaching space. Tips for coaches, coach educators, and coaching bodies on how to ethically and effectively incorporate AI in their practice are provided. The Conclusion offers reflections and recommendations on what it will take to successfully address the AI storm and acknowledges the consequences of not rising to this momentous occasion.
