Quantum Computing is a growth industry, with many promised benefits due to emerge in just a few years. We begin by recounting some of the history of quantum mechanics (QM) from its early development and including some of its stranger features such as energy states, wavefunctions, tunneling, and interference. After describing some more interesting features of quantum states, such as entanglement, path integration, and the measurement process, we come to the physical realization of quantum machines, problems that need to be resolved, and an elementary example of quantum code. Next, we describe the nature of the problems as well as the algorithms patterned to solve these. Finally, we speculate on the future of quantum computing, including the computing promise, the shortage of algorithms, and applications.
