Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is fundamentally transforming agricultural management by integrating modern technologies and best practices into everyday farming decisions. This approach enables farmers worldwide to address climate change adaptation while improving productivity, sustainability, and resilience. This chapter examines CSA principles and goals, providing context for how farmers can respond to climate variability, reduce inputs while maximizing outputs, and minimize greenhouse gas emissions. The theoretical framework and system architecture are outlined, emphasizing Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that enable robust sensor networks and wireless data transfer for real-time environmental monitoring and data-driven decision-making. This chapter explores multi-parameter sensor networks combining ground-based measurements, satellite data, and drone monitoring systems, all supported by comprehensive quality assurance and calibration protocols. Precision resource management applications include smart irrigation systems, precision fertilization, integrated pest and disease management, and energy-efficient greenhouse operations, demonstrating significant reductions in water and fertilizer inputs without compromising yields. Predictive analytics and decision support systems utilize machine learning models, weather forecasting, risk assessments, and yield optimization algorithms to provide farmers with early warnings and actionable information. The chapter addresses carbon management through soil carbon sequestration monitoring, greenhouse gas emission tracking, and renewable energy integration. Policy and regulatory frameworks are examined alongside economic and social assessments of emerging technologies and future research directions. This holistic approach demonstrates how CSA, enabled by modern technology and supported by appropriate policies, can deliver sustainable agricultural systems that feed growing populations while preserving environmental resources for future generations.
