Ethnic Melting Pot and the Evolution of Cameroon’s Urban Centres
摘要
The ethnic melting pot in Cameroon’s urban centres has contributed to cultural diversity and economic growth but also poses significant challenges. Problems arising from this phenomenon include social tensions, conflicts over resources, and difficulties in accessing public services. Ethnic identity and loyalty can sometimes take precedence over national identity, leading to divisions and inequalities. However, new perspectives offer opportunities for growth and development. Inter-ethnic dialogue, cultural exchange programmes, and inclusive urban planning can help mitigate these challenges. By embracing diversity and promoting social cohesion, Cameroon’s urban centres can become hubs for innovation, entrepreneurship, and cultural expression. This chapter explores the complexities of ethnic diversity in urban centres and highlights the need for inclusive policies and initiatives that promote social harmony and economic development.
