Energy-Efficient Test Automation in Banking: Towards Sustainable CI/CD Pipelines
摘要
Automated Testing has become crucial for modern banking CI/CD pipelines but its energy consumption in regulated environments is not explored enough. This research made an attempt to address the gap through practical study from a banking platform. While green DevOps research focused on general purpose workflows, this study examines the unique constraints of regulatory compliance. Analyzing a large set of pipeline executions over several months reveals that combining intelligent test selection, container reuse, and flaky test elimination achieves good levels of energy reduction without compromising quality or compliance. These optimizations also improved defect detection by a slight number while reducing test coverage by only negligible number, demonstrating that sustainability and regulatory requirements need not conflict. These findings support that the energy efficient test automation can be achieved and benefited in highly regulated industries and it offers proven strategies and practical guidelines for the organizations to pursue sustainable CI/CD practices.
