Towards Sustainable Coastal Futures
摘要
The sustainability of coastal protection strategies ultimately depends on the deliberate integration of ecological integrity, social inclusiveness, and adaptive governance. This chapter situates the future of bioshields within the wider agenda of sustainable coastal development and climate resilience. It synthesizes key insights from the preceding chapters, underscoring the imperative to move beyond discrete, project-based interventions toward systemic and long-term coastal resilience planning. The discussion outlines pathways for embedding bioshields within national adaptation policies, blue economy strategies, and global sustainability frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement. Emphasis is directed toward the integration of scientific advances, technological innovation, and traditional knowledge systems to co-produce adaptive solutions that enhance both human well-being and ecosystem health. The chapter foregrounds emerging concepts—such as hybrid coastal infrastructure, ecosystem accounting, and resilience-based management—that link ecological restoration with broader socio-economic transformation. It further examines financial and policy instruments, including green bonds, carbon markets, and ecosystem service valuation approaches, that hold potential for sustaining bioshield initiatives over the long term. Ultimately, the chapter argues that the realization of sustainable coastal futures hinges on collaborative governance, inclusive participation, and iterative learning processes supported by robust scientific evidence and digital innovation. By positioning bioshields as catalysts for ecological restoration, climate adaptation, and social resilience, the chapter concludes that advancing sustainable coastal futures requires harmonizing human development with nature within an adaptive, equitable, and science-informed governance framework.
