Identity Process
摘要
This chapter starts with an introduction to some of the coming out and identity process models that have been used to describe queer identity development over time. Sexual orientation and gender identity development have been part of theoretical models and researched for decades. Some of the different models and the stages of identity process are discussed. After the background is presented on queer identity processes, I present an asexual identity process model that is rooted in phenomenological research. This chapter will present a three-stage model of asexual identity formation that focuses on the way language can facilitate asexual identity resolution. Quotations from research participants guide the discussion of asexual identity formation. Clinical perspectives and case examples are presented to further explore the importance of understanding asexual identity formation processes.
