Study on Sustainable Bioeconomy on Farms in the EU
摘要
The bioeconomy strategy, through its integrated approach, has an important role to play in achieving climate neutrality objectives, but also in promoting economic, social and environmental sustainability, thus the bioeconomy encompasses all related sectors and services, as well as investments involving the production, use, processing, distribution or consumption of biological resources, including ecosystem services, and is becoming an essential element and a natural consequence of the transformations envisaged by the European Green Pact. This paper examines the sustainable bioeconomy on farms in the European Union, focusing on four main strands: bioeconomy policies in agriculture, bioeconomy monitoring systems, the relationship between European Green Pact initiatives and the Bioeconomy Strategy, and investment strategies for the EU farm bioeconomy. Monitoring of economic indicators for 2012-2021 shows an increase in employment and turnover in the agricultural bioeconomy, although regional disparities remain. The conclusions underline that EU policies have supported innovation and resource efficiency, but implementation varies between Member States, that investments in the bioeconomy are essential but unevenly distributed and need better coordination, and that the Green Pact contributes to the green transition, but that there are challenges related to land use and biodiversity protection and future policies and strategies need to be synchronized.
