A Framework Toward Socio-Demographic Factors Influencing Cyber-Safety Awareness in the South African schools
摘要
The contemporary digital era emphasises the need for cyber-safety education, especially inside educational institutions. In modern society, the Internet and other information and communication technologies significantly shape individuals’ professional and social lives. The increasing dependence on information and communication technology (ICT) and online resources elevates the likelihood of cyberattacks and other threats. The study’s primary objective is to provide a comprehensive framework to enhance school cyber-safety awareness by investigating the socio-demographic and other factors influencing cyber-safety awareness in South African schools. The research was conducted in elementary and secondary schools in the Ekurhuleni region of Gauteng province, focusing on thirteen senior schools and three elementary schools. The study used a survey research technique and a quantitative method to collect data from 120 teachers. The findings indicate a gap in the use of ICT in educational institutions, as teachers are inadequately equipped to teach pupils on cyber-safety due to insufficient resources. These results suggest South African schools may develop more effective cyber-safety awareness programs. This research emphasises the need to promote cyber-safety awareness in South African schools and presents a framework called SACSAFLT to tackle this concern. The framework has three stages: testing, strategic control, and implementation and delivery.
