Examining Predictive Policing Models Implemented in the United States
摘要
The field of policing was revolutionized in 1993 with the introduction of the COMPSTAT model in the New York City Police Department. Real-time crime and arrest data were mapped in an effort to effectively and strategically deploy police resources. Dramatic and impressive crime reductions were noted. The COMPSTAT paradigm was swiftly incorporated by many American and global law enforcement agencies, which enhanced crime control efforts nationally and internationally. Predictive policing models were later developed that additionally increased organizational crime reduction efficacy and augmented criminal investigative efforts. Even with impressive results, predictive policing faced challenges and complaints. The development of crime analysis and predictive policing models in the United States will be delineated, followed by a discussion on contemporary issues and concerns.
