Many organizations are increasingly incorporating the concept of a green economy into their operations. This paper examines the case of Bariq ( www.bariq-eg.com ) company to investigate an innovative framework within the plastic recycling industry, highlighting how the adoption of a green business model drives sustainable competitive advantage. Using a case study methodology, which includes semi-structured in-depth interviews, secondary data, and observation, the paper illustrates how Bariq became Africa’s largest plastic recycler by adopting the green business model for sustainable plastic management. The paper discusses various sustainable development models and frameworks, including the Triple Bottom Line Business Canvas, models emphasizing social and environmental values, and the Circular Economy, which advocates the responsible, cyclical use of resources. It also explores business models for sustainable plastic management. Based on these insights, a framework for adopting green business models for sustainable plastic management is proposed. This framework includes responsible operations, sustainable resource use, reduction of virgin plastic production, technology for sustainable products, carbon footprint reduction, ethical and sustainable sourcing, fostering a circular economy, alignment with SDGs, and quality standards and certification. Bariq’s case study reflects these principles, demonstrating its steady progress toward a sustainable business model that benefits both the environment and the economy.

摘要
