What is (Morally) Wrong with the Metaphysical Empire?
摘要
The concept of empire is by no means a morally neutral concept. For Africans and other formerly colonized people, the concept conjures up images of historical conquest, domination and exploitation. Being the architect of such conquest, domination and exploitation in Africa, Europe is (historically) distrusted on the African continent. Here, I do not only mean that Europeans are distrusted in a descriptive sense. More importantly, I also mean that they are distrusted in a normative sense. In other words, in the context of the historical relationship between Europe and Africans, Africans view Europeans as morally bad actors who act in bad faith.
