Measuring Cognition in the Diagnosis of Dementias
摘要
The thread of complexity inherent within the diagnoses of dementias and their prodromes is reflected further within the cognitive profiles of such neurodegenerative conditions. Historically, the cognitive profiles of dementia have been an essential component of diagnostics in this field. With the advancements of science to include biomarker testing, the role of cognitive profiles in dementia diagnosis may shift. Currently, however, the importance of cognitive performance patterns and how these inform care remains a critical component within the field of dementia. This is particularly important for the understanding of diagnostic comorbidities, including mental health factors and other differential diagnoses. The distinction of cognitive patterns in neurodegenerative disorders and mental health factors can facilitate not only diagnostic challenges but also play a key role in management/treatment strategies for a variety of neurocognitive conditions.
