Although most patients will present with classical symptoms of acute diverticulitis, it is important to have a high clinical suspicion of diverticulitis in certain patients who may not present with the classical picture. In these cases, knowledge of the different presentations along with the use of the wide range of diagnostic testing modalities available will help the treating physician appropriately diagnose and treat these patients and allow for prompt surgical treatment when necessary.
