This chapter examines volunteer and ranger perspectives on the sky/societal level of impact from the Fence Model of Volunteer Impact introduced in the eighth chapter. Volunteers and rangers define impact for democracy on the following dimensions: (1) Civil Conversation, (2) One America, (3) Diversity & Inclusion, (4) Calming Tensions, and (5) Race/Race Relations. This chapter focuses on two categories, which stand apart: Civil Conversation and One America. The other categories, though distinct, have substantial parallelism and redundancy with the two focal categories. The balance of this chapter introduces broad context of parks with respect to Civil Conversation and One America using the words of park rangers and then looks more deeply at the activities and impact of volunteers through the words of the volunteers.

摘要
