This chapter examines volunteer and ranger perspectives on the function/operational level of impact from the Fence Model of Volunteer Impact introduced in the eighth chapter. Volunteers and rangers define impact for beneficiaries on the following dimensions: (1) visitors (visitor experience, visitor enrichment, safety, youth enrichment), (2) wildlife, (3) trails and landscapes, (4) ancestors, and (5) historic and cultural assets. Organizational impact spans six categories, from most to least prominent: (1) community connection, (2) support rangers, (3) junior rangers, (4) eagle scouts, (5) financial savings, and (6) support other volunteers.
