This chapter examines corporate human rights responsibilities through the lens of the UNGPs, using OECD case law as a practical foundation for analysis. The UNGPs set a global standard for preventing and addressing human rights abuses in business operations, while the OECD Guidelines provide more detailed, sector-specific guidance tailored to the various industries and activities in which MNEs operate. The primary objective of this chapter is to critically assess how the corporate human rights and environmental due diligence responsibilities outlined in the UNGPs are applied in practice through the OECD NCP system. As highlighted in the previous chapter, the core responsibility of corporations regarding human rights and the environment is centred on HRDD.
