Historical research on education in the field of sport and physical exercises is a broad subject and area of study within the humanities. The fundamental principle of this discipline is the study of all periods of time and all people. This assertion can also be applied to physical education and training. As Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the Olympic movement and guiding spirit of Olympism, once articulated: ‘All sports for all people, that is the new goal to which we must devote our energies, a goal that is not in the least impracticable’.
