One of the most dramatic societal impacts of AI is on education. While, on the one hand, many students have been using ChatGPT and other AI tools to do much of their school work, including programming projects, faculty have been seriously concerned about what this is doing to their learning. If they are getting their work done using AI tools, what knowledge and skills will these students posess when they complete their BS-CS or BS-CE degrees? Faculty in other STEM disciplines are equally concerned. In response, several colleges and universities have imposed drastic restrictions on the use of AI tools by their students. In this paper, I propose a novel approach, inspired by cognition theory, to address the issues. My approach is intended to make education enjoyable to both students and faculty. At the same time, the approach will ensure that students learn effectively while continuing to use AI tools. The approach will also prepare the students for the workplace since the workplace of today, tomorrow and the coming years will make heavy use of AI tools.

摘要
