Climate Change and Environmental Threats
摘要
The effects of climate change have affected the range and distribution of numerous plant species worldwide. The impact of climate change has not been evaluated in Rubus guyanensis Focke. This is a high-elevation species that seems to tolerate fluctuating climatic conditions. This species is well adapted to live in open areas, in paddocks, near fences, rocks, or near forests. R. guyanensis plants growing at El Salto del Tequendama, Vereda El Verjon, and near the road that leads from La Calera to Chingaza National Park, Colombia, continue to produce new shoots, fruits, and flowers. However, these plants have been affected by what seems to be a disease, but the author does not have evidence that it could be associated with climate change. Habitat destruction and agricultural expansion are two issues that R. guyanensis is facing in its home range. Although it is a pioneer species that is well adapted to its environmental conditions, lack of care by native people, coupled with habitat destruction and agricultural expansion, could reduce the natural populations.
