The Future of Trade Book Publishing in the U.S.
摘要
In recent years, mainly since 2011, the entire trade book sector faced a series of major challenges and opportunities. Book revenues and units vacillated annually. The impact of Covid on book publishers (and most went remote using ZOOM; and many in 2025 were partially remote), libraries, and book retail stores were upsetting, impacting employees, readers, and the pivotal channels of distribution. Artificial intelligence (AI) emerged as a hotly debated topic regarding its positive and negative opportunities for authors and publishers. Legal and constitutional discussions, and important decisions handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court and various Federal Courts, about book bans was one of the dominant issues confronting publishing. This chapter analyzed these topics as well as the use of predictive models and algorithms to predict book sales. It concludes with a list of some unanswered (or possibly unanswerable) issues related to: consumer behavior; and the possible continued growth of romance, juvenile/YA, and Bibles in the months and years after 2025.
