Urban water management is essential to sustaining and building resilient water resources that face urbanization, climate change, and aging infrastructure. In this study, we reviewed selected global case studies from 2000 to 2024 that highlight five common themes for urban water management: water supply, wastewater, stormwater, water quality management, and groundwater management, as well as evolving infrastructure maintenance. The key message is that effective urban water management requires inter-sectoral collaboration, long-range planning, and ongoing investment in infrastructure and technology. The implications of the case studies reinforce how cities must build resiliency into their management frameworks for water security and environmental protection in an uncertain future.
