The metaverse is a developing digital ecosystem that combines virtual and physical realities. In this study, the research landscape for the financial application of the metaverse is analyzed by using bibliometric analysis from the R package. The study used Scopus-indexed papers for relevant research groupings. Following established bibliometric techniques, an initial screening of relevant literature yielded a final selection of 84 papers that matched the inclusion requirements. The Visualisation of Similarities (VoS) viewer software was used in this study. The study has identified majorly four themes that provide a comprehensive overview of future research areas—blockchain-based financial services and decentralized smart contracts. Non-Fungible Tokens and Web3. These study findings emphasize both existing research gaps and new opportunities, providing significant insights for scholars and industry practitioners. The study contributes to the growing knowledge of bibliometric research, deepening the understanding of the Metaverse’s transformative impact on the financial sector and its implications for both academics and industry.
