Making a Way Out of “Ain’t No Way”: Low-Resource and Rural HBCUs Take on the Challenge of Engaging Alumni Donors

In this chapter, the author discusses how low-resource and rural HBCUs take on the challenges of fundraising and alumni engagement through maximizing opportunities around intercollegiate athletic competition, embracing town and gown relations, creating newsmaking opportunities in markets nearby and abroad, and embracing their regional- and rural-serving ethos across racial and cultural barriers.
