Voice And Gesture - Controlled Wheel Chair With Slope Detection

This work describes a voice command and gesture-controlled wheelchair assistance system aiming at improving mechanical movement for disabled persons. In terms of input, the system presents an opportunity for multiple input controllers where the user can control the wheelchair by voice or a gesture on the joystick. Also, the invention has a slope detection characteristic in order to improve security by modulating the transportation velocity of a wheelchair when on slopes or by providing a warning to the user, in order to avoid rollbacks or instability. For security, a password-protected keyboard operation system is incorporated to lock or unlock the joystick and voice operation so that the chair cannot be operated by anybody but the authorized user. The application of the technologies is basically to make the mobility solution integrated, flexible, convenient, and safe for use by those using a wheelchair.
